* NEW *VUGUV: Mobile Video of Congress
Washington-based FedNet Brings Congress to Smartphones & Tablets
FedNet, the leading provider of streaming video of Congress on the internet since 1996, launched VUGUV -- http:// VUGUV.com --in January with the 2012 State of the Union.
VUGUV is a mobile-only webpage with mobile-only broadcasts. It is simple to use: bring up the http://VUGUV.com.com website on your smartphone or tablet, see the day’s schedule and with two taps you can watch live streaming video of House and Senate floor debates, committee hearings and other events. Best viewed over WiFi or 4G, you can follow debates while you’re grading papers in a coffee shop, or encourage your students to watch Congress on the school bus! Carrier data charges may apply. Their broadcast schedule is published on Twitter http://VUGUV.com or to receive Daily Updates by email, text VUGUV to 22828.
Just this week the Supreme Court is holding six hours of oral argument related to the Affordable Care Act. There are no cameras in the Court, but they are releasing audio the same day as each of the consolidated cases is heard. For the first time, you and your students can listen in to the technical issues of constitutionality before the Court that we’ve heard so much about the last two years – on smartphones and tablets!
Managing Editor Michael Kirby made a presentation to Congress in the Classroom 2009 on digital video of Congress for teachers. Look for more news as FedNet rolls out educational mobile video services. In the meantime, visit http:// VUGUV.com for a “wireless glimpse” of the concepts you teach everyday in action on Capitol Hill!
